What presence do prominent personalities from entertainment, sports, and politics have in the Internet? Our newly introduced "DOTSTAR® Index" uses a special formula to evaluate the number of Facebook and Twitter fans as well as interest in the homepage . Based on this, a worldwide ranking is possible and the current top 100 celebrities are listed. A direct link to an official homepage, Facebook, Twitter, and Wikipedia is also available through "DOTSTAR® Data".

However, some celebrities are not represented in all areas. Ashton Kutcher, for example, is at the bottom of the list because he has no homepage and relatively few social media fans. The current leader is Oprah Winfrey, an American talk show host; she is ahead of Barak Obama and Justin Bieber. An Internet presence can make someone a star -  Justin Bieber is a prime example of this. But many celebrities do not place enough emphasis on their Internet presence. However, this would be of great importance to their status as a star and as a product endorser. The sentence "Your name is your brand" applies here. Therefore, vipspaces.com also gives celebrities the option to be entered into a database as a popular figure and brand ambassador. This gives companies the opportunity to book a registered celebrity as a spokesperson.

Google+ begins verifying celebrity accounts

Google has started verifying celebrity accounts on its Google+ social network, the company announced Monday. Once verified, celebrities, public figures and high-profile member profiles will display a check mark next to the account holder’s name.

“We’re starting to roll out verification badges on profiles so you can be sure the person you’re adding to a circle is who they claim to be,” said Google employee Wen-Ai Yu in a recent note. “For now, we’re focused on verifying public figures, celebrities, and people who have been added to a large number of Circles, but we’re working on expanding this to more folks.”
